prezi is, in my opinion, the greatest thing to come out of hungary since zsa zsa gabor. a colleague introduced me to this fun & aesthetically appealing web 2.0 tool back in february. we've been in love ever since. initially, i thought i was cutting edge. the only person in the states that knows the secret. i regularly used it in presentations & got many complements. it was when i attended the one to one computing conference at penn state that a keynote speaker used prezi for his presentation, that showed me it was no secret. the word got out. prezi is a great tool.
what is prezi?
prezi refers to itself as the zooming presentation editor. this is because of its unique presentation style allows the user to not only use space on a plane, but depth as well for a unique three dimensional feel. prezi starts you with a large blank space. from this space, you add shapes, pictures, & text boxes to make your presentation. you can adjust the size, shape, & angle of all presentation components. prezi contains plenty of tools for adding content, but its style is what really sets it apart from other presentation programs. prezi has extremely clean lines, smooth animations, & an overall impressive experience. prezi is new to the scene & has been out of beta for only a couple months, so its template choices are somewhat limiting, but i expect the number of choices to grow with time.
there are many ways for you to utilize prezi in your classroom. essentially take any instance where you thought of using keynote or powerpoint & replace said program with prezi. prezi is impressive because it makes presentations truly visual & full of depth. this concept is difficult to explain with words, but a youtube video does a great job.
final verdict.
prezi is the best looking online presentation application i've ever seen. the possibilities for content, look, & volume of information are endless. the best thing about prezi is its ease of use. i recommend not only using prezi for classroom presentations, but also allow students to create their own presentations to share with the class. my only complaint is its small selection of templates & themes. hopefully, with time, more visual options will be made available. as for now, i hope you enjoy this unique & stimulating tool.
